Maps For Windows Phone

Maps on Windows Phone 8 offers a lot more than your location and directions. In line with the Windows Phone OS, Maps is a tile that contains several features related to your location – nearby venues for anything from a movie to a museum, plus user-reviewed restaurants and bars in walking distance. Thanks to deep software integration, you can tap these places for contact details and call directly from Maps.

Save your favourites

Once you have searched for a place, you can save it by tapping it to reveal its contact card, then hitting the star to mark it as a favourite place to find again (and again and again ...)

Get the quickest route

Whether you’re driving or walking, you can get directions for the best route. Be sure to check whether you’re in ‘car’ or ‘walk’ mode as driving routes are usually longer than walking

Find the closest place to eat

The Local Scout feature shows the nearest venues, shops and restaurants to your GPS location. You can access it via Maps, or simply hit the Local Scout tile in your apps list

Call for reservations from Maps

Once you’ve found a place you want to go, touch it to see its contact card. Then just tap the phone number to call them up

Check the traffic where you’re going

The new and improved Maps sports traffic data for more secondary streets now, so tap the ellipsis for more options and select ‘show traffic’ to see which routes are blocked or free

See the view on the street

That handy ellipsis again gives you more options in the map view – switch to aerial view to get an idea of the area you’re going to. Or pinch to zoom way in and you’ll automatically get a look-see at satellite images of streets and buildings

Navigate quickly

Maps integrates with sat-nav apps such as Nokia Drive – which is preloaded on Nokia’s Windows Phones – or CoPilot, so you tap a place name and select the ‘drive’ option to bounce the address for the sat-nav to direct you

And that’s not all ...

Nokia phones are loaded with Nokia Maps. For more features like public transport directions
