Art & Design Apps For Windows Phone

FreshPaint (Free)

Microsoft’s modern take on the popular Paint program that’s been in every Windows PC since the dawn of time. It’s fresh, tactile and comes with cool new effects such as a ‘dryer’ option to stop smudges.

Neon Draw (Free)

There’s something very Zen about this finger-painting app in fluoro colours. Tapping creates circles, and a two-finger sketch makes a line. Shake to start over.

Spark Art (Free)

Spark Art incorporates physics-based animations to accompany shapes, words and objects you draw. Varying strokes and speed affect the resulting patterns and effects for a piece of art you can, y’know, experience.

Color Design Pro

Create your own colours using red, green or blue, or capture a particularly poignant purple for digital posterity. The app then  finds you the exact  CMYK code to use in  your design work.

Tola (Free)

Browse the DeviantArt online community for unique artworks by category or simply by what’s added daily. Lists of the top pieces are handy too.

Sketch Pad

Create sketches, flowcharts and diagrams with this easy-to-use virtual pad that comes with plenty of useful preset shapes as well as a freehand brush and a good selection of colours, lines  and brushes.

Palette Tools

This simple mini-app just tells you the best complementary and matching colours for  a particular shade – handy  if you’re coordinating a wedding party, designing your home interiors or even just choosing an outfit.

BlackBoard Writer (Free)

Fancy an old-school white line drawing? This virtual blackboard lets you scrawl and save your work.

Pixelator (Free)

Create pixel art on the go with this fun little app that has a useful grid to keep your dot drawings straight. Pixelator also supports sharing to your social networks.

Hand Painting (Free)

Make drawings out of linked hands (no, not creepy) and save them as wallpaper.
